About Me

I'm a 34-year old beginner to ballet! It started with a growing fascination with pointed feet and pointe shoes, which led me to purchasing a pair of (fitted) point shoes... which led me to realizing just how little strength my body has and how MUCH strength it takes to even hold a basic pose on pointe. So, I've decided to start teaching myself very basic ballet. Right now, I am focusing on building strength in the areas I've learned I need it in for ballet, and to eventually go onto pointe (a lot of lower body, along with my core and some upper body). When I feel strong enough, I plan to start taking ballet classes from an instructor, but for now, I'm content working in the privacy of my own home (yes, even if it means I have to unlearn and relearn when I do start classes). I don't advise ANYONE to take on ballet without the guidance of a professional, as ballet can be very dangerous (especially on pointe). I am fully aware of the risks I am taking, and this is my story!

My current goals are to build more strength before starting real classes, so I can focus more on technique than building strength once I do start. I will start with however many classes I can afford when the time is right (and however many of those that will fit into my schedule), supplementing what I learn with continued work at home. Eventually, I want to be able to go on pointe, with a trained instructor, and finally... I hope to be able to perform locally here and there. I'm much too old to ever be professional, and that's not my goal! I want to have fun, get in shape, learn to move gracefully, get flexible, perform in front of a crowd, and learn how to discipline myself to accomplish these things!
